“In an emotionally charged 30-minute conversation, they each admitted to each other that they thought differently,” Jobson writes. “It was a devastating blow to Katherine, who was doubly disappointed by the phone dump.”

Mr Jobson said that despite being “distraught” by the split, Kate was “determined to hide her pain from the outside world”.
Eventually, Prince William began to “have second thoughts” and reunited with Kate at a “Freakin’ Naughty”-themed costume party hosted by jockey Sam Waley-Cohen.
Jobson writes: “She appeared dressed as a nurse, William made straight for her, and they spent the first part of the evening in lively conversation before going onto the dance floor, where they kissed.”
