A 2-year-old girl who was attacked by a coyote in front of her home near Los Angeles on Friday afternoon is on her way to recovery, her father told CNN.
Ariel Eliyahuo told CNN her daughter Ariya had to undergo multiple rabies shots after having a seizure around 3:45 p.m. when she brought the children home from daycare. rice field.
Video from the Ring’s security cameras shows Coyote running, grabbing Ariyah and beginning to drag her seconds before her father reacts.
“I heard Arya scream. I thought she fell,” Eliyahuo told CNN. “I quickly ran to see what was going on with her and saw a coyote attacking her. I took her in my arms and tried to keep her away.”
I hear other people screaming off camera.
With his daughter in his arms, Eliyahuo tried to scare the coyote away, throwing a water bottle at the running coyote. He took her daughter to her house, picked up her board, and followed the coyote.
Eliyahuo said his wife saw blood on her daughter’s trousers and rushed her to the hospital where she received several rabies shots. He said her daughter was doing better, but both his children were horrified by the experience.
They live in the residential area of Woodland Hills, so he didn’t expect this to happen there, he said.
“We don’t live in a zoo, we live in Los Angeles,” Eliyahuo said. “Now I’m really, really, really afraid to let my kids go out alone, even in the backyard.”
Capt. Patrick Foy, a spokesman for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, told CNN.
Foy said there were several coyote sightings in the area on Saturday night, but no one was caught.
Authorities have taken samples from the girl’s clothing and hope to collect DNA that can be used to identify the animals they caught. Foy said the coyote would be euthanized so they could be tested for rabies.
It’s unusual for coyotes to roam urban areas like this, but it does happen, he said.
Earlier this year, a 2-year-old girl was attacked by a coyote in nearby Orange County, police said.
