The 59-year-old wrote that his and Rebecca’s love story began when his daughter told him that it was actually her idea.
“Rebecca and I committed to being together — to choose each other and see where it went. We knew marriage was a possibility, but neither of us thought we could get serious about it,” he explained.
“Until that point, Indiana had only seen Rebecca as ‘Miss Rebecca,’ her schoolteacher and our friend. She had become much more than that to me, but I was very careful to make sure Indy ‘figured it out’ on her own. And to be honest, I wasn’t at all sure she could or would understand.”
“Her love for her mommy is so great and such a big part of her life, and neither Rebecca nor I ever wanted to tarnish that love,” Rory wrote.
“So we were just waiting and watching to see if Indiana would realize that Rebecca could be more than just a friend to her and her dad.”
It was in late March, during Rebecca’s usual morning routine at the father-daughter farmhouse, that she first revealed that Indiana had asked her to marry his father.
“I asked Indy and she said, ‘Rebecca, I think you should marry your dad…'” he wrote.
“And Indy looked at me and said, ‘And I told Miss Rebecca that my mommy’s been missing for a long time, and if she marries you, she could be my new mommy…'”
Joey Feek passed away in March 2016 after a two-year battle with cervical and colon cancer.
Rory also has two daughters, Heidi and Hopie, from a previous relationship.
