Scott PetersonHe was speaking after being convicted two decades ago of killing his wife, Laci Peterson, and their unborn child, Connor. peacock Next month, the three-part true crime documentary series “Meet Scott Peterson” also features his first on-camera interview since 2003.
“Face to Face,” which premieres on Aug. 20, is expected to include details about new developments in the case, which is currently being reinvestigated by the Los Angeles Innocence Project, which announced it would be taking on the case earlier this year.
The docuseries, made 20 years after Peterson’s conviction, will feature what’s being billed as a “series of exclusive, intimate conversations” between director Sharleen Anderson (executive producer of The Laci Peterson Murder Case) and Peterson. Anderson will also speak with Peterson’s sister-in-law, Janie Peterson, former Modesto Police Department Chief Detective Al Brocchini and Detective John Buehler, Peterson’s former attorney Lara Yeretsian, former ABC News producer Mike Gudgel, and others.
Anderson has been investigating murder cases for over a decade. At the time, it was the disappearance of eight-month-pregnant Laci Peterson on Christmas Eve 2002 that dominated newspaper headlines. As the documentary describes, Peterson “was revealed to be a liar, a cheat and ultimately a murderer. With media around the world following every moment of the trial, Scott was convicted and sentenced to death. Case closed. Or is it really closed? For the first time since before his 2003 arrest, Scott tells his side of the story on camera in a series of intimate conversations.
“While many believe the jury got it right, Scott’s family and experts familiar with the case have worked tirelessly for more than two decades to unravel inconsistencies in the evidence and find new information that supports alternative theories about Laci’s murder. Now, in a shocking development in a murder the world thought was solved, the Los Angeles Innocence Project will take over Scott’s case in 2024.”
Face to Face with Scott Peterson is produced by Universal Television Alternative Studios and is executive produced by Anderson, Liz Yale Marsh, Poe Cutchins and Tim Clancy. Anderson and Cutchins directed three 60-minute episodes, which will premiere on August 20.
