Shannen Doherty’s doctor has revealed the beloved actress’ heartbreaking final moments.

In an interview With the PeopleOncologist Dr. Lawrence D. Piro said the “Charmed” star’s final moments were “sad” and “beautiful.”
“In her final hours, she was sleeping and transitioning in a very comfortable setting and was surrounded by very close friends,” Dr. Piro told the outlet.
“The room was surrounded by a select group of friends who had given her so much care and support. It was a solemn and sad atmosphere, but also beautiful and full of love.”
“The hardest thing about this is she loved life and wasn’t ready to leave,” he added.
Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation treatments. She went into remission in 2017, but announced in February 2020 that she had stage 4 breast cancer.

“I have to go through chemotherapy again and it’s really tough,” she said at the time. “The thought of going through that again is depressing.”
Speaking about the late actress’ battle with the illness, Dr. Piro said, “She kept going until she couldn’t go any more.”
“When we last spoke, she was beginning to realise that things had changed quite significantly,” he told the outlet.
“The conversation was about love and support and compassion and still fighting. Even though she was feeling a little bit worse, she wanted to continue treatment and keep fighting, and we did.”
And although the “Heathers” actress was in a “situation where my options were limited,” she wasn’t ready to give up.
“Shannen didn’t live her life that way, so there was no debate about it. She was an incredible warrior in everything she did,” Dr. Piro added.
Doherty’s death was confirmed Sunday by her longtime publicist, Leslie Sloane.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of actress Shannen Doherty,” Sloane said in a statement to the outlet.
“On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after a long battle,” Sloan continued. “A devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend, she was surrounded by her loved ones and her beloved dog, Bowie. The family asks that their privacy be respected at this time so they can grieve in peace.”
