Tragic Death The Shining Lead actress Shelley Duvall received many tributes from co-stars and colleagues.
Duvall starred as the wife of Jack Nicholson’s axe-wielding madman. Stanley KubrickEmma Watson, the actress best known for her role in the 1980 film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, died in her sleep due to complications from diabetes. Her death occurred on Thursday (July 11), just a few days after her 75th birthday on July 7.
“My lovely, kind and wonderful life partner and friend has left us,” her longtime partner, Dan Gilroy, said. The Hollywood Reporter“I’ve suffered too much recently, but now I’m free. Fly away, my beautiful Shelley.”
“Despite the exaggerated treatment she received on set, Shelley has always been vocal about her experiences filming. The Shining “Working with the lovely Stanley was an experience I would never trade for anything, as it was such a learning experience,” posted the late Kubrick’s official X account. “Our deepest condolences to Shelley’s friends and family.”
Over the years, Duvall has repeatedly denied claims that he struggled after filming. The Shining It’s not that she holds any grudge against Kubrick – she previously said “it was very hard to stay hysterical for that long” and described making the film as “almost unbearable” – but she also spoke complimentaryly of the experience, adding, “But from another perspective, I think it was actually very good.”

Shelley has had some health issues the past few months and I visited her often,” Sarah, a young woman who grew close to Duvall in her later years, posted on X. “I will be forever grateful for the memories I made with her and for the comfort and friendship I was able to give her.”

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, to Bobby Ruth Crawford and Robert Duvall, Duvall had three younger brothers, Scott, Shane and Stewart. She is survived by her partner, Gilroy.
