Warframe developer Digital Extremes has revealed new gameplay of the upcoming fantasy MMO. Soul Frame.
The studio revealed the upcoming project in its first development stream. TennoCon 2024We get a detailed look at the game’s opening scene, revealing customization features, new magical abilities, and combat. The footage also gives us a closer look at the player’s wolf-like mount, as well as the Nightfold hub, where you can lounge, customize weapons, and talk to NPCs with the press of a button. It bears some similarities to Warframe’s Orbiter Ship, and yes, you can pet the mount here, if you’re curious.
It all starts with a look at the Warsong Prologue, which highlights customization options like motherly hair, skin color, and eyes at the start of Soulframe, revealing not only new features but also how themes of ancestry are woven throughout the experience. This fully narrated intro sequence is then cut short as a time skip whisks us to the future to reveal what will ultimately become each player’s Envoy character.
The importance of visuals in Soulframe is further highlighted with the introduction of a new NPC, the rat witch Verminia. According to Digital Extremes, the character offers “enhanced cosmetic customization” as well as aiding in the use of potions, elixirs, and more. Envoy’s abilities allow him to throw weapons at enemies and turn invisible for a stealthy approach, but Soulframe players will need more than brute force to take down a giant foe like Nimrod. This giant monstrosity uses lightning abilities for ranged combat and a staff for close combat. It looks like you’ll be fighting this monster a lot.
“The community we’ve built Soul Frame “They’re a true inspiration to the team and a pillar of everything we do,” Soulframe community manager Sarah Asselin said in a statement. “We’re welcoming more new players than ever before and can’t wait to share their progress with the team through our regular development streams. Soul Frame “Layers of intrigue.”
Today’s gameplay of Soulframe should pique the interest of both Warframe veterans and those who have never touched a Digital Extremes game, but there’s still a long way to go until the official release. But during today’s TennoCon presentation, Digital Extremes promised plans to bring the fantasy MMO to more players this fall. Unless plans change, the studio says that anyone who wants to play Soulframe Preludes will be able to do so if they sign up.
“The closed testing we’ve done with the community has had a huge impact. We’ve learned a lot and continue to listen and learn every day,” Soulframe creative director Jeff Crooks said in a statement. “We hope to open it up to more players this fall. Everything is still a work in progress, but that’s our style. Feedback is important to us and we iterate on it regularly.”
We were able to learn more about Soulframe in an interview with Digital Extremes CEO Steve Sinclair, Crookes, and Asselin, including how the studio maintains a community-driven approach to development, weapon diversity, potential tie-ins with Warframe, and much more. Be sure to tune in for the full interview early next week.
Soulframe will be released first on PC, then on consoles at an undetermined time in the future, with another developer stream scheduled to take place in September.
