SpaceX President and Chief Operating Officer Gwynne Shotwell has been awarded the 2023 National Space Trophy by the Rotary National Award for Space Achievement (RNASA) Foundation. RNASA will host a formal dinner in honor of Ms. Shotwell on April 28, 2023 in Houston.
Each year, RNASA’s National Space Trophy is awarded to an American who has made significant contributions to the nation’s space exploration program. The foundation was established in 1985 by the Space Center Rotary Club of Houston, Texas. It organizes and coordinates annual events to recognize outstanding achievements in space and raise public awareness of the benefits of space exploration.
Shotwell was in a position to oversee SpaceX’s Starship program and Starbase facility in November 2022.

Nominees for the National Space Trophy are voted on by the Foundation’s Advisory Board, a group that includes individuals involved in the space program. Directors of NASA centers, presidents of aerospace companies, news media, political leaders, and former trophy winners are members of the Foundation’s Advisory Board.
Shotwell was nominated for the award by Rob Meyerson, Founder and CEO of Delalune Space. Meyerson described her as a “strong leader, engineer and trusted partner to NASA, the Air Force, the national security community and commercial customers.”

In 2002, Mr. Shotwell joined SpaceX as its first Vice President of Business Development. She was one of the company’s first dozen employees, and initially she was responsible for selling launches to private and government customers before SpaceX operated the rockets.
