SpaceX’s next Starship test flight is coming soon, CEO Elon Musk recently confirmed.
The four test flights so far have shown repeated progress, with each Starship launch doing better than the last. The 400-foot-tall rocket will eventually make interplanetary life a reality. At least, that’s SpaceX’s goal.
However, Starship still conducts regular test flights, with its first test flight, Integrated Test Flight 1 (also known as IFT-1), taking place on April 20, 2023. The flight lasted about four minutes in total, with SpaceX activating its flight termination system, destroying the vehicle about 40 seconds after activation.
And in November, IFT-2 lasted 8 minutes and 55 seconds. Then, multiple booster engines shut down due to clogged filters, and the grounding system was activated again at an altitude of about 90 miles (148 kilometers).
IFT-3 The explosion occurred in March and lasted for more than 49 minutes, causing the booster to break apart before it was scheduled to splash down in the Indian Ocean. The booster was ultimately destroyed about 1,500 feet (462 meters) above sea level.
IFT-4 took place in June and was SpaceX’s most successful Starship mission to date. It lasted just over an hour andIncludes successful re-entry and a successful controlled water landing In the Indian Ocean.
IFT-5 is currently scheduled to launch soon, with Musk saying at X that he believes it will happen in about four weeks.
Given the success of IFT-4, the quick turnaround to launch ITF-5 likely means SpaceX is poised to make further advances in Starship launches. Space.com To tell.
After IFT-4, SpaceX had fewer issues to analyze and resolve, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) no longer required further investigation. As with any other post-flight report,.
SpaceX hopes to use IFT-5 to again precisely land the giant booster on its StarBase launch pad, which would be another incredible breakthrough if it can pull it off.
