Steam has updated the way demos “look and work” within your Steam library.
in post On its official website, Valve stated, “Thousands of playable demos are released on Steam each year and tried out by millions of players, and we’ve noticed some trends in feedback about our process and features from both developers and players. We’ve put together updates based on that feedback.”
From now on, you’ll be able to add demos to your library without having to install them right away. Just like full games, you can simply click “Add to Library” and download them later when you’re ready.
It will also appear in all the same sections and lists, including New Arrivals and Trending charts, making it “act like a free game”.
Perhaps best of all, Steam will now automatically notify you when demos for games on your wishlist become available.
“You’ll be able to install demos even if you already own the full version of the game,” Valve adds. “Primarily, this makes it easier for developers to test demos, but it also helps players more easily manage installing/uninstalling demos.”
You can also explicitly remove a demo from your account. If you choose to uninstall a demo, it will also be permanently removed from your library.
“By default, free demos appear as a button on the full game’s store page. But developers have asked for a way to activate the full game’s store page to explain more about their demo, add individual screenshots, upload trailers, specify what features are supported, and more,” Valve explains.
“So now you can do that. When you click on the demo, sometimes it loads the full demo store page, and sometimes it takes you to a page with the full game where there’s a button to install the demo.”
“If the developer chooses to enable a store page for the demo, players of the demo may also be able to leave user reviews of the demo. These reviews and review scores will appear on the demo’s store page, just like reviews for other free games on Steam.”
