The prospect of a proper new classic-style Command & Conquer game feels like a pipe dream, but 9bit Army is one of my favorite contenders for the vacant throne, which isn’t surprising given the pedigree of developer Petroglyph Games, which was founded by former Westwood programmers and brought us the fantastic RTS games Star Wars: Empire at War and the Command and Conquer Remastered collection. Now, a new survival mode gives it yet another way to play, and you can pick it up cheap in the ongoing Steam sale.
of 9bit Army Survival mode was introduced in preview form for testing a few weeks ago, but this update expands on that functionality significantly, and most importantly, now you can play in co-op or have a friend watch over you in observer mode. For me, the glory days of the best survival mode are over. RTS games There’s always been a cooperative Comp Stomp where you and your friends team up to take on the AI, so the prospect of being able to do just that in a new challenge format is very appealing.
As the name suggests, Survival mode pits you against wave after wave of increasingly tougher enemies. The update now includes three difficulty levels. You start off with the most basic level, and more difficult levels will be unlocked as you reach certain milestones in your current level.
As mentioned above, you can now invite your friends through Steam to form a party of up to four players to take on Survival mode together. We’ve also made some additional improvements to the mode, including an interrupt timer that caused new waves of enemies to swarm you regardless of when existing ones were defeated, and fixing an annoying bug that could leave you feeling overwhelmed by an unfair amount of dangerous enemy spawns. Plus, you can now watch replays of your Survival mode games if you want to see where it all went wrong.
But that’s not all there is to this update. 9-Bit Armies Discount While it’s still a work in progress, Petroglyph has overhauled the visuals of the game’s build menu to make it cleaner and less cluttered, and there are also some AI tweaks to make flanking more efficient, less wary at the start of battles, better late-game builds, and to stop you accidentally blowing up your own units with superweapons.
Finally, Petroglyph stated that work on 9-Bit Armies’ second campaign is progressing well, Suggest It should be released soon. For now, Steam Sale What is a discount? 9-Bit Armies is 25% off on Steam until Saturday 27th July, so if you buy it before then it will cost you $18.21 / £12.56.
