Scottish teens raised nearly $70,000 for cancer research to fight the fight against illness.

Georgie Hyslop spoke about her diagnosis, ongoing treatment and fundraising efforts Radiation therapyOn Sunday, August 17th, her younger sister Megan joined us in the episode.

Georgie, 17, began experiencing foot pain in December 2023 and first noticed her symptoms when she visited a doctor. Doctors initially thought he had a stress fracture, but Georgie later underwent an MRI and CT scan.

Mayo Clinic The disease is described as “a type of cancer that begins as bone cells and soft tissue growth,” which is most common in young adults and children.

Georgie received 14 rounds of chemotherapy and 33 rounds of radiation as part of her cancer treatment. After being diagnosed, the teen chose to donate her organization to a British charity Cancer Researchand started her fundraising mission.

To raise money, Georgie hosted events such as family fun, raffles, balls and more. Less than a year after his diagnosis, he raised more than $20,000 at the Sierharion ward at Glasgow and the Royal Hospital of the UK cancer charity.

Georgie went into remission in July 2024, but she learned that cancer had returned earlier this year.

“My main purpose is to help others experience the same thing,” she told an outlet in the UK. Daily Record.

Georgie won for her fundraiser Daily RecordThe Courage of Teenagers of Courage was awarded at the Scotland Awards ceremony held in June. According to the outlet, the event celebrates “the ordinary Scots whose acts of kindness and selfless courage make this country wonderful.”

“We are all truly proud of Georgie. She keeps her positive and living life to the fullest. She joins the Clyde River zipline in Glasgow to support the Calum cabin close to our hearts.”

Lynn said the teens “now have a £100,000 goal to raise for the charity that helped us through Georgies’ diagnosis. There’s no doubt she’ll achieve this. She’s amazing.”

In her interview Daily RecordLynn said, “She was able to put out a central line because her last scan was stable, and the next scan was in October.”

She said, “We’re so proud of Georgie and Megan. If their podcast helped only one other family member to go through this, it did the job.”
