Update to latest information…: Lineup for the 81st tournament Venice The festival was announced this morning by the La Biennale Historical Archives Library. The announcement was made by Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, president of La Biennale, and Venice Film Festival Artistic Director Alberto Barbera. After taking place last year amid a SAG-AFTRA strike, this year’s Venice is expected to be a more star-studded affair. A key launchpad for awards season and a prime media opportunity for talent, the world’s oldest film festival is set to gain traction again with buzz around Todd Phillips’ upcoming film starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. A Maria Callas biopic directed by Pablo Larraín is also rumored to be in the running. MariaAngelina Jolie stars as the legendary chanteuse, and Luca Guadagnino may be returning to the Lido. QueerDaniel Craig will star in the film, which is based on the novel by William S. Burroughs, and a thriller starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt is also coming soon. Wolf Apple’s “Prisoner of Azkaban” is also in the works, as is director Pedro Almodóvar’s first English-language feature film. The room next door, Starring Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, directed by Johnny Depp ModiCo-starring with Al Pacino.
Already confirmed is Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice it is Opening a meeting It was dropped out of competition on August 28. The Warner Bros. title is a sequel to Burton’s 1988 classic supernatural comedy starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Justin Theroux and Monica Bellucci, with Jenna Ortega and Willem Dafoe also joining the cast. Peter Weir and Sigourney Weaver have been named recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Isabelle Huppert will serve as this year’s jury president. The festival runs from August 28 to September 7.
