A flashback reveals how Bill avoided being dragged into a quarantine zone by US forces after the September 2003 outbreak. Finding himself the only inhabitant of the town, he resolutely works to fortify his place with traps and gather supplies in order to live a life of solitude in luxury while the outside world collapses. .

In 2007, Bill’s way of life seemed to serve him well. He looks pretty much the same his four years after the outbreak. His solitary existence makes Frank (Murray Bartlett)A survivor from a quarantine zone in Baltimore falls into a trap outside the perimeter.
Frank turns out to be a really nice guy and manages to break down Bill’s emotional wall. A little help from Linda Ronstadt). The two fall in love. The change in Offerman’s acting is remarkable. And despite their different personalities, they build a life together.
They became friends with Tess and Joel over the years, taking smugglers out to dinner and agreeing to work together. Bill respects each other.
In 2010, raiders stormed the town. Joel warned Bill that something was going to happen. The bolstered defenses hold up, but Bill is shot and only survives because Frank patches him up.
Jumping to 2020, we find that Frank has suffered from major health issues over the years and has lost most of his motor skills. It is clear that there arehe seems to be suffering ALS Also MSbut author Craig Mazin deliberately obscured Frank’s illness on the show’s official podcast. Bill is a loving caregiver, helping his partner take his medication and get around.
One morning in 2023, Bill wakes up to find Frank sitting next to him. Accepting that there is no cure for his illness, he admits that he spent most of the night getting out of bed and informs Bill that it is his “last day.”
“One more day please… Take me to the boutique, where we’ll pick out outfits for us. You wear what I asked you to wear, and we’ll get married. And you’re delicious.” I’ll make dinner,’ he said before taking a pill out of his pocket. “And you crush all this and put it in my wine, and I will drink it. Then you take my hand and take me to our bed, and , I will fall asleep in your arms.”
Bill has a hard time accepting Frank’s decision, but eventually agrees. Their final hours together play out in a beautiful and moving montage.
When the wine is poured, Bill complies with Frank’s deadly demands. However, Bill reveals he did the same with his own wine, and he met the same fate. Bill gently pushes Frank into the room and the scene cuts to black.
Eventually, Ellie and Joel arrive home and discover a note from Bill explaining what happened (“To Anyone, Possibly to Joel”).
“I hated the world and I would have been happy if everyone died. But I was wrong. There was one person worth saving,” it reads. saved him and protected him that’s why guys like you and me are here we have work to do and god is everything that gets in our way Please help the motherfucker of
He told Joel to use his weapons and equipment to keep Tess safe, which apparently took a heavy toll on Joel. (Ronstadt’s 1970 song “Long Long Time” began their journey).
billsNot a very emotional character. He’s still an accomplished survivalist, barricading his town with a wide variety of traps, but we get very little hint of his underlying warmth.
He rescues Ellie and Joel from a horde of infected, but wishes they were gone soon. Ellie and Joel form an uneasy alliance with him to get the car they need to continue their journey, and battle the infected to get to it.
They succeed in this mission, allowing Ellie and Joel to drive into the sunset (until things go horribly wrong again), allowing Bill to return to his isolation. his fate is unknown.
Bill hints at a relationship with Frank in one of his many angry comments.
“Once upon a time, there was someone I cared about. It was my partner. Someone I had to take care of,” he says. “And in this world, shit like that serves one thing: it kills you. So do you know what I did?
Bill and Frank’s sexuality is never revealed in-game, but is hinted at by a gay porn magazine Ellie found at home.
What about Frank?
We never see Frank alive in the game, as he and Bill fell out before Ellie and Joel arrived. At the end of their journey across town, the trio discover Frank’s body hanging in the house he used to live in.
It turns out that he chose to take his own life rather than be bitten by the infected and become a staggering monster.
“Well, Bill, I don’t think you’ll find this note, because you were too scared to make it to this part of town. Please know that I hated your guts. I’m tired. About this shitty town and your attitude of sticking to your ways.”
“I wanted more from life and you never got it. And that stupid battery you kept moaning about – I figured it out. But , I think you were right. If I try to leave this town, I will die. Good luck, Frank.”
Oh. Bill wasn’t too happy to read this, so he threw it away. PS5 remake version will receive “In Memoriam” trophy pick up broken notes (In the show, Joel smashes Bill’s note and throws it aside).
Before arriving in Bill Town, Smuggler’s Note About Frank. After making a deal with a smuggler, he reveals that he had planned to move quietly to a quarantine area in Boston, but was unable to make it happen. Frank says he was on his way to Boston when he spotted him.
