The New York Times mini It’s a simplified version of the newspaper’s long-running large crossword puzzle. On most days, there are 3-5 clues in each direction in a 5×5 grid, but on weekends the puzzles are often larger.
Unlike its larger sibling, the NYT, mini Crosswords are free to play The New York Times website or the NYT Games app, but you’ll need a NYT Games subscription to access previous puzzles in the archives.
The New York Times mini is a fun daily pastime that usually doesn’t take much time at all — I try to complete a standard grid in under a minute every weekday — but sometimes I miss a clue or two and have to uncover the answer.

I 1:19 Complete today’s NYT mini.
On my first run, I managed to figure out three of the horizontal answers (GAP, BORNE, SWING), needed a bit of help with the other two, but I think I was able to work out NEE, and also worked out all of the vertical answers except for AERIE (which I’d never heard of), although knowing the first and last letters helped me work out NEE in order to complete the puzzle.
I’ll be honest, I enjoyed the CREEK and GROAN puns.
