After a flurry of negative comments, Star Wars Outlaws‘ Graphics, Ubisoft The company said it has no plans to delay the release of the open-world game, and is confident “people are going to love this game.”
Earlier this month, IGN debuted 10 minutes of all-new gameplay for Star Wars Outlaws. Check out the video below: The video was met with poor reception, with over 8,000 likes and 13,000 dislikes. Commenters pointed out technical aspects of Ubisoft’s new game, including dropped frames, stuttering, and issues with ripples in Dune.
“So we ignore the frame drops and San Andreas-like explosions?” one comment reads under the video, while another asks, “Why do the graphics look so awful and the particle effects on the explosions and Kay’s face are awful?”, referring to Outlaws’ protagonist Kay Beth. At the very least, the look of Star Wars Outlaws wasn’t well received.
The negative comments were enough to catch the attention of analysts at Bank of America, who questioned Ubisoft’s management. Conference Q&A Call Asked earlier this week whether the company would consider delaying the game’s release in light of the response, Ubisoft chief financial officer Frederic Duguay said: “The game has already been released, so the release date is solid as of August 30.”
“We have several more hours of very high quality content coming soon that really showcases the depth of the open world, which is a key part of our promise of a multi-planet galaxy to explore, so that should bode well for the game in terms of high quality delivery,” Ubisoft’s CFO added.
Ubisoft is also confident in the graphics of the final product: “As we said with Star Wars, the level of quality of the world and the experience is really high,” Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot added. “We’re using the engine to its full potential, and we think people are going to love it,” Guillemot continued.
