This year, Arizonans were able to witness history from their own backyards. If you missed the past few monumental launches, now is your chance to watch these launches with the rest of Arizona. rocket Going through the state.
SpaceX The company is scheduled to launch a Falcon 9 rocket carrying 20 Starlink satellites on Wednesday, July 10, from Vandenberg Air Force Base.
The launch was scheduled for 7pm, but there will be back-up opportunities to launch again on Wednesday until 11pm and again on Thursday 11th June at 3.37pm if necessary.
Here’s everything you need to know SpaceXyounch and how to watch it at home.
Where in California will SpaceX launch from?
The rocket is scheduled to launch from Vandenberg Space Command Center on California’s central coast.
The base is located in Santa Barbara County, about 5 miles from the small town of Vandenberg Village. The nearest city is Lompoc, about 10 miles south of the base, then Santa Maria, about 17 miles north.
What is SpaceX?
Space Exploration Technologies Corporation, commonly known as SpaceX, is a spaceflight company owned and co-founded by billionaire Elon Musk.
The company builds spacecraft and launches communications satellites aimed at providing broadband internet service in space.
What is Falcon 9?
by SpaceX websiteThe Falcon 9 will be the first orbital-class reusable rocket, a two-stage rocket designed to transport people and payloads (the part of the spacecraft that creates mission data and transmits it to Earth) into and out of space.
The mission will use a reusable first-stage booster, a launch engine that will separate from the rest of the rocket once the spacecraft leaves Earth’s atmosphere. The Falcon 9 first-stage booster will then turn around and land on an unmanned ship in the Pacific Ocean for use.
The engine has been a key component in 18 other SpaceX missions and underscores the company’s mission to improve the future of space travel. The Falcon 9’s reusability allows SpaceX to “reuse the rocket’s most expensive parts,” making access to space more affordable, the company said. Website.
What is Starlink?
Starlink is a constellation of satellites that operate in low Earth orbit. SpaceX websiteStarlink is the first and largest constellation of satellites orbiting in low Earth orbit to provide broadband internet around the world.
While most satellite internet services operate from a single geostationary satellite that orbits Earth about 22,236 miles, Starlink is a constellation of thousands of satellites that orbit Earth about 341 miles.
Starlink’s satellites are in low orbit, which reduces latency and data time between users and the satellites, improving performance for high data rate activities such as streaming, online gaming and video calling.
Starlink also aims to eliminate dead zones in cell service through its Direct to Cell program. Like cell towers in space, Direct to Cell will enable texting, calling, and browsing in traditionally remote areas.
How to watch the launch
The California launch will create a light show across much of Arizona, allowing people to actually see the spacecraft from their own backyards.
If you want to watch the launch online, it will be streamed on SpaceX’s live webcast. X, formerly known as Twitter The explanation will be given about 5 minutes before the launch.
