There was so much product at the September 29th Wizards of the Coast announcement that special effects and gimmicks were left out of the stream. There are plenty of new things to cover as well. From banned cards, Brothers’ War Spoilers, and preconstructed decks including literal Power Nine revealed for MTG Arena, there’s a lot going on with this reveal! Let’s get started!
Power Nine is coming to MTG Arena!
In a million years, I never expected anything like this. The Alchemy set in Dominaria United introduces the Oracle of the Alpha, a creature that summons Power Nine into the player’s library. Sadly, this means that many of the cards that break like Mox’s artifacts can have a weaker impact, but time walk, especially in MTG Arena, is an absolutely terrifying precedent. The card that summons Power Nine into your deck is an Alchemy card, so Power Nine is probably only legal in Arena-only formats. Alpha oracles also help you find these cards through scrying, making them easy to attack with evasion. This looks like an insane addition to MTG Arena.
brothers war spoilers
This isn’t going to cover all the messed up stuff, but it does cover every card. has been confirmed. The most notable spoiler is that you get a very powerful planeswalker through the old meld mechanic.
Merged Planeswalker
A quick reminder, melds are mechanics in which two MTG cards are combined to yield a greater and huge profit. is insane. Urza, the Planeswalker, is the strongest Planeswalker we’ve ever seen. That said, the cost to create Urza is a bit in the realm of the magical Christmas Land. This is a great win condition if you collect all the resources.
Urza, the planeswalker two parts are also pretty good. Mightstone and Weakstone are conditional mana locks with powerful Enter the Battlefield abilities that help mitigate tempo losses when casting expensive mana locks.
Guardian Urza seems like a strong candidate for Commander. A bunch of different archetypes may want this cost reduction. Urza doubles as a flashy win condition, so it’s easy to imagine these cards having the potential to be a big hit in Commander.
there is confirmation that Merded Mishra is also included in this set. That card hasn’t been revealed yet, but will be announced next week.
Mishra’s Foundry
this MutaVault-The Esque promo card unveiled today also doubles as a box topper for Brotherhood War. This could be worse than Mutavault, but it has his tertiary mode that enhances the attacks of Assembly-Workers, including other animated foundries. Overall, this is a solid card with some fun tribal synergies.
game day promotion
These new spoilers will be Gameday promo cards for The Brothers’ War.You seem to really enjoy R&D advanced sleeperA life-like design that goes through different modes. Surge Engine is an exciting application for this, but I’m not sure this card should be of Mythic rarity. Aggressive players will be thrilled with the Recruit Officer. This 1-mana 2/1 weenie can replace itself later in the turn if you can’t do much.
bundle promotion
Queen Kayla bin-Kroog is a successful card in Standard as well as in Pioneer. This her 3-mana Legendary Creature allows you to wheel your hand while playing up to 3 different artifact or creature cards from your discard pile. The only problem is that these cards must have mana values of 1, 2, and 3 respectively. This could work well for aggressive collective enterprise deck as a result. I have high hopes for this card. Even better, with the promotions available, it should be relatively easy to access this card.
commander card
With the release of The Brothers’ War comes two new Commander decks. These decks will feature different versions of Urza and Mishra than those available in the main set. Here’s what we know about these decks so far:
One of the decks will be an Esper deck featuring Chief Artificer Urza. The deck seems to be heavily focused on artifact creatures, as suggested by Commander.
Mishra’s Grixis deck features more combat-oriented shenanigans that focus on non-creature artifacts.
The big news is that the entire Commander deck will feature old-frame cards! This represents changing time as a theme seen in The Brothers’ War set. Therefore, the old-frame versions of Urza and Mishra will be available in these Commander decks. A borderless version is available in the Collector Booster Pack.
Early previews of these Commander decks show off the tantalizing artifacts players will want to get their hands on with old border art! Players are already incredibly excited, so these run out quickly Please look forward to it.
brothers war jump start
Just like Dominaria United did, The Brothers’ War will also include jumpstart products that will replace themed boosters. This packaging is not new news But it was picked up regardless.
A new mysterious archive?
a new kind of ‘mysterious archive]Appears in the Brothers War Set! This means that some historical artifacts will be available in all booster pack levels of the Brothers’ War products. This affects the Draft format of the set, but the legality of these cards is not affected by reprints (not legal in Standard).
These retro artifacts come in several different variations. As shown above, these artifacts contain artwork with associated blueprint styles. Recent Secret Lair ProductsThis particular art is only featured in the Collector Booster, while the other art featured in the Ivory Tower above is available for all Brothers’ War products.
The most important part of this announcement can be seen in the wormcoil engine on the far right of this photo. For the first time (maybe other than that) internal prophet), Magic, and The Gathering products contain serialized cards. This means that there are only numbered versions of the cards available with the Collector Booster product. 500 numbered cards will be available as indicated by the Wurmcoil Engine shown. Apparently, these cards also contain their own foils. The implications of this are so great that we do not have time to cover them in this article. That said, expect content talking about what this means for MTG in the near future.
Brothers’ War Prerelease Promo
Following Magic 30, Dominaria United’s Prerelease foils are featured in Brothers War in four newly revealed Prerelease foils. All of these cards have seen some level of play and should excite those lucky enough to get them (loyal vassal rightmost card).
Pioneer pre-constructed deck!
Introducing 4 types of Pioneer pre-constructed decks! Many of the core cards required for these Pioneer archetypes are (arc light phoenix, torrent machine giantetc.) There are only 2 in these decks. Therefore, this should provide a powerful shell that can be leveled up with some investment.
The big news here is the presence of banned cards on the Izzet Phoenix list. Expressive repetition was recently banned in Pioneer. That said, these decks are meant to be played out of the box, so as long as this exact 75 is piloted, you can run the two expressive iterations available on this deck. .when the same solution was used A haven without a faceis a card banned in Standard and printed in mono-white structure decks. If you want to do another list, don’t worry. The expressive iteration is still heavily played in Modern, and as a result still carries a price tag on the secondary market.
Game Night and Commander Intro Decks
Above is the full list for the third iteration of the Game Night product. This is a set of five of his decks intended to be played similarly to board games, all containing one of his unique cards. Some of these deck reprints are pretty strong.
Five new pieces of art on some old faces are also featured today. These cards will be the commanders of the new Welcome Commander Decks coming soon. These are aimed at new players who want to learn how to play the game in Magic’s most social format. This was an amazing addition to the already extensive spoiler line-up.
