a Tick tock The star claims it was “the worst mistake of my life” and urged viewers to avoid undergoing laser eye surgery.

Jess Shields said the procedure, known as LASIK surgery, left her with permanent problems including regular eye pain, floaters and dryness.

The personal trainer underwent the procedure in 2022 and claims that although doctors told him it went “well”, he was surprised by the lingering side effects.

“If I can make someone think twice before they take action, that’s what I’m here for,” Shields said.

LASIK is a type of surgery used to treat myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. LASIK Vision Institute. that It’s a standard procedure that surgeons can complete in five to 15 minutes.

Jess Shields opened up about the events and results of the LASIK surgery she underwent in 2022 in a TikTok video earlier this week, urging viewers to avoid getting the procedure.

Shields revealed in a July 12 video that the doctor called her a “perfect candidate” for the common eye surgery.

She claims that doctors warned her about side effects such as dry eyes, but also told her that they would “go away.”

“They spoke as if it was really rare to have problems after surgery, when almost everyone I’ve ever spoken to who’s had LASIK surgery has had a ton of problems,” Shields said.

She added that while she can still go about her daily life, her eye problems are “quite noticeable” at times.

“Floaters are really frustrating. When they get in your eye, you can’t see anything bright,” she says.

Other persistent problems she claims she has from her LASIK surgery include chronic headaches and eye cysts.

Shields said her doctor told her the cyst wasn’t caused by her LASIK surgery, but she believes that’s not the case.

The TikTok user then revealed that, more than two years later, his eyes are “not good again” and he’ll probably have to wear glasses again.

She added that her eyes are so dry that she can no longer wear contact lenses.

“If you’re going to get surgery because of convenience, don’t do it. My quality of life has decreased by 20 percent,” Shields said of her experience with LASIK surgery.

LASIK surgery is performed on the front layer of the eye and uses a laser to reshape the cornea.

After the doctor determines if the patient is a good candidate for surgery, they will measure the eye and perform diagnostic tests to ensure the surgeon has accurate information.

Your doctor will also measure your eye dryness and your ability to distinguish different shades and patterns on objects.

The procedure is relatively painless, but patients may experience eye pressure multiple times during the procedure.

“The ophthalmologist Dr. Vicente Diaz said: Forbes Earlier this year: “Soon after surgery, you will usually be able to see better without glasses.”

Patients who have had LASIK surgery usually don’t need long to recover, but they may suffer from dry eyes, halos around the eyes, swelling of the eyelids and sensitivity to light, he said. Verywell Health.

Most patients are able to return to work or driving within 24 to 48 hours after surgery.

LASIK eye surgery can take up to six months for a patient’s eyes to fully heal.

Shields said doctors called her a “perfect candidate” for LASIK surgery, which she said was a success.
LASIK is a type of eye surgery used to treat myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.

This surgery can also cause dry eyes, permanent vision loss, or irreversible blindness, but these effects are rare.

However, 92-98% of patients are satisfied with LASIK eye surgery, and the complication rate is less than 1%.

Another procedure available to patients with vision problems is photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), which Shields recommends for anyone wanting to improve their vision.

PRK is a similar corrective eye surgery in which the surgeon chooses not to create a flap in the cornea.

PRK is also a quick procedure that can be completed in under 30 minutes. It has a high success rate and a low chance of complications.

However, patients who opt for PRK surgery may experience a longer recovery time and may suffer from eye discomfort for a longer period of time.

Other options that can improve vision include small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) or intraocular lens (IOL) surgery.

TikTok users took to the comments section of Shields’ videos to share their own and their family members’ experiences with LASIK surgery.

“My ex-husband had botched LASIK surgery. It was terrible until he was able to get topographically corrective LASIK,” one TikTok user wrote.

Another person commented: “I also had LASIK surgery and I regret it. I have horrible dry eyes. Before I didn’t even know I had them, I just had bad vision. Now I’m constantly reminded of the discomfort in my eyes, especially as the day goes on.”

But there were more positive comments.

“I suffered from chronic dry eye for 10 years after LASIK surgery and then it was cured,” one TikTok user wrote.

“So I’m hopeful, but I know that sounds like a really long time.”
