Jess Shields said the procedure, known as LASIK surgery, left her with permanent problems including regular eye pain, floaters and dryness.

“They spoke as if it was really rare to have problems after surgery, when almost everyone I’ve ever spoken to who’s had LASIK surgery has had a ton of problems,” Shields said.
She added that while she can still go about her daily life, her eye problems are “quite noticeable” at times.
“Floaters are really frustrating. When they get in your eye, you can’t see anything bright,” she says.
Other persistent problems she claims she has from her LASIK surgery include chronic headaches and eye cysts.
Shields said her doctor told her the cyst wasn’t caused by her LASIK surgery, but she believes that’s not the case.
The TikTok user then revealed that, more than two years later, his eyes are “not good again” and he’ll probably have to wear glasses again.
She added that her eyes are so dry that she can no longer wear contact lenses.
“If you’re going to get surgery because of convenience, don’t do it. My quality of life has decreased by 20 percent,” Shields said of her experience with LASIK surgery.

TikTok users took to the comments section of Shields’ videos to share their own and their family members’ experiences with LASIK surgery.
“My ex-husband had botched LASIK surgery. It was terrible until he was able to get topographically corrective LASIK,” one TikTok user wrote.
Another person commented: “I also had LASIK surgery and I regret it. I have horrible dry eyes. Before I didn’t even know I had them, I just had bad vision. Now I’m constantly reminded of the discomfort in my eyes, especially as the day goes on.”
But there were more positive comments.
“I suffered from chronic dry eye for 10 years after LASIK surgery and then it was cured,” one TikTok user wrote.
“So I’m hopeful, but I know that sounds like a really long time.”
