Holly Thursby, 28, a mother of two from the UK, told Kennedy News & Media that she started experiencing unusual symptoms after giving birth to her second son, Jack.

Kennedy News and Media reported that in July 2025, Thursby discovered a lump on the side of her neck, which she said was “really pretty big” but didn’t cause any pain.

“It was stiff and didn’t move, but it was definitely there,” she said. “When I turned my head to the side, I saw it.”

Thursby’s symptoms turned out to be a type of blood cancer — stage 2 hodgkin lymphomaAccording to Cancer Research UK, this means it’s present in two or more lymph nodes.

Common symptoms include swollen lymph nodes, excessive sweating, weight lossitching after drinking alcohol, persistent cough or shortness of breath, high fever, pain in the stomach or lymph nodes.

“Pain when drinking alcohol is actually a known side effect of Hodgkin lymphoma,” she said, according to the report. “It’s about the acidity in the wine, not when you drink other alcohol.”

Alcohol-related pain in Hodgkins lymphoma patients has been “scientifically recognized” since the 1950s, but cases are rare, Healthline acknowledged.

Thursby reportedly started chemotherapy in November, noting that the hardest part was not being able to care for her children after losing her mother to a blood disorder called myelodysplasia.

“I grew up without a mother and it was terrible. I can’t do that to my sons,” she told Kennedy News and Media. “We are all devastated, but now everyone knows, and we treatment planthat’s what we need. ”

“I’m just doing the best I can for them. I’m telling myself this is temporary and I have to keep going.”
