this week’s TWABBungie announced that they were responding to complaints from Destiny 2 fans about how difficult it was to farm Exotic class items, which are armor pieces with perk combinations that can be combined with strands to create new and interesting builds. But the sheer number of combinations to find makes it 1000 times harder to farm than other Exotic items in Destiny 2.
Now Bungie is making changes, but I would argue that the changes aren’t enough.
- New bounties have been added to Dual Destiny, which will reward one additional class item per character each week.
- The drop rate of the Pale Heart Overthrow event will be increased. The longer you play, the more likely you are to encounter what appears to be a form of bad luck prevention that already exists to some extent.
- The drop rate for farming treasure chests at the destination is Diminished They say this is to encourage overthrow play, but it’s also clearly to discourage macro-farming, as players would just sit back and use that tool to constantly open chests. And yet it was inexplicably hard to get the roll you wanted.
On the surface, this all seems… lacking. It’s not live yet, though. single It’s almost laughable that a week after doing something in Dual Destiny your character is given an extra class item, and everyone was hoping for double drops in that dungeon, given that there was a glitch that could occur before it was patched.
The chest nerf is to avoid macros, but it also nerfs the normal “chest farming” loop that was legitimately happening. It’s boring, but at least Several result.
It’s highly unlikely that Overthrow will be buffed enough to dramatically outweigh farming Dual Destiny itself, which means it likely won’t provide enough drops to make farming comfortable.
Again, I think Bungie underestimated how many combinations there are here and how much luck you’ll need to get one of these with the perks you want. No other exotic comes close. Sure, farming an exotic class should be a bit more complicated than farming Lost Sectors or ranking Ra’hool, but it’s 5,000% harder and just seems too extreme.
Bungie says this is a “first step,” but it’s been an issue since Dual Destiny launched two months ago, so further changes could take several more months. Bungie is also aware that people would like the ability to obtain these drops outside of Pale Heart, and has said that it will consider it.
This is one of the worst farms I’ve seen in a long time in this game, Bungie is way too stingy here and they need a much more dramatic improvement than what we see here, there are plenty of other farms in this game that don’t require you to spend 20-50 hours farming this one role.
