Reinhardt is Optimus Prime, Bastion is Bumblebee, Ilari is Arcee, and Ramatora is Megatron; Plus, there will be Transformers-themed voice lines, highlighted intros, player icons and more, allowing fans to showcase their Transformers fandom within the game. Overwatch 2 x Transformers Comic Book spoke to the two members about the collaboration. Overwatch 2 To find out more about which characters were available and which ones didn’t make the cut, contact the team.
Overwatch 2 x Transformers Origins
A collaboration between Blizzard and Hasbro Transformers The collaboration will begin in 2022, according to Amy Dennett. Overwatch 2“It’s been a long time coming,” said Salesforce’s vice director of product management, explaining the length of time it took to complete the product. Transformers The collaboration came up during season 11. The game’s battle pass is themed around special effects-style characters.
Of course, Like the Overwatch 2 x Cowboy Bebop collaborationdecide which character will be selected Overwatch 2 x Transformers It was incredibly easy, Overwatch 2 “There was no shortage of ideas on this project,” art director Dion Rogers said.
“Optimus Prime quickly settled on Reinhardt,” Rogers adds. “The concept team actually tossed around a bunch of ideas for multiple characters. Reinhardt was always going to be Optimus, and Ramatora was always going to be Megatron for us anyway. But we did explore other heroes, like making Pharah Starscream. We tried to go with Soundwave for Lucio. The team had a few favorite characters and we settled on that. The concept team did a really good job exploring a bunch of ideas.”
another Overwatch 2 One of the heroes considered for the Transformers tie-in was Wrecking Ball, who was meant to be paired with the planet-sized Transformer Unicron. But in the end, there were only a limited number of slots available, so it was up to fans to decide which character to include. expect look.
“[Unicron Wrecking Ball]was one of those things where we were like, ‘Wow, what a great idea,'” Dennett said. “Transformers fans will love it, but it was like, ‘Are we doing Bumblebee? Or are we doing Unicron?’ It’s a balance, but it’s definitely something we’re taking into consideration.”
Overwatch 2 x Transformers: Reinhardt becomes Optimus Prime
Players and fans have been flocking to the Reinhardt/Optimus Prime skin ever since it was first revealed, loving not only its design but also the added voice changer that makes the character sound similar to the Transformers character. However, one question that many have had is why Reinhardt isn’t equipped with a hammer instead of Optimus Prime’s signature Energon axe, especially since some of Reinhardt’s skins swap out the hammer for an axe.
“We need to keep some elements that remind players of who this character is within the Overwatch universe,” Rogers responded. “His iconic hammer is one of those things that you see as a silhouette when he’s running around during gameplay. So part of the reason for that is to keep with Reinhardt, but also to push the boundaries of what a basic cosplay for this hero can be.”
The team also acknowledged that they had at least floated the idea of Optimus Prime Reinhardt transforming into a truck when he activated his charge ability, but that never came to fruition.
“I remember that being talked about, and I think the technical artists would have killed us if we had gone that route,” Dennett said, “But if you play the intro to the game, you’ll notice that the animators had a lot of fun with angles. It looks like the trailer is coming at you, but those elements are really hard to perfect, even with Bastion, who is physically transforming. We’ve come to have a lot of respect for the actual Transformer toys, there’s so much engineering that goes into making them look good, both in their untransformed and vehicular states. And we definitely thought about it, but we just went a little too far.”
Overwatch 2 x Transformers: Bastion appears as Bumblebee
Overwatch 2 The protagonist Bastion transforming into Bumblebee makes sense not only from an overall perspective (neither character speaks) but also from a transformation perspective. In this new Bumblebee skin, Bastion’s sentry form looks like a little car driving around, which Amy Dennett called “a big opportunity.” This element of Bastion’s skin may pave the way for the team to try different designs for future Bastion skins.
“For Bastion, we’re always trying out a lot of different ideas,” Rogers said. “He’s a difficult character. We built a pretty complicated model for him to tweak, and it’s a lot of fun when we find ideas like this. But it’s definitely opened up more possibilities for him. So you never know what’s going to happen.”
Another key detail of the Bastion Bumblebee skin that players may have noticed is the skin’s license plate, which Rogers confirmed to us is supposed to be an onomatopoeia for the Transformers’ signature “transforming sound.”
Overwatch 2 x Transformers: Ilari as Arcee
The biggest surprise for some Overwatch 2 player Ilari becomes Arcee. It’s not just because Ilari hasn’t gotten many skins recently, it’s also one of the reasons she’s garnered so much attention.
“We wanted to give Ilari a new skin, so we played around with a few ideas for her,” Rogers said. “Arcee is actually one of my favorite characters in the Transformers universe. So when we started down this path, we started doing research. So I rewatched the movies… But Arcee obviously stood out as a female Transformer, so her body and everything else was a perfect fit for Ilari when it came to creating the skin. And I love the way Ilari’s weapon transforms. It’s a little reminiscent of transformation, in that you can’t fully transform the character, but you can still allude to the abilities. So we chose that for Ilari.”
Overwatch 2 x Transformers: Ramatora appears as Megatron
It was easy to decide that Reinhard should become Optimus Prime, Overwatch 2 x Transformers For the collab, landing on Ramatra was just as easy as it was for Megatron.
“When we first started looking for the right character, he also stood out as someone who could potentially make a really great Megatron,” Rogers added. “He also transforms, so we wanted to pick a few characters that could simulate a little bit of what Transformers do in their world, which is why we chose Ramatra for this character. In his ultimate mode, you can see we’re trying to mimic Megatron’s guns and state when he transforms. He’s also ultimately the villain in the game, so he’s a perfect fit for Megatron.”
Overwatch 2 x Transformers Collab: No Free Skins
Overwatch 2 Fans quickly realized that unlike a collaboration, No free skins were found for Le Seraphim, Cowboy Bebop, or One Punch Man. Overwatch 2 x Transformers Collaboration. When asked about this, Dennett responded:
“Transformers has an iconic battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons, so I felt it might be fun to play that. This time, it wasn’t like, ‘Let’s give away skins for free,’ but rather, how can we allow players to show their feelings as fans and their attachment to the series? If you’re a fan of the Decepticons, you’ll want to play hard and really get a Decepticon player icon, name card, and title. So we really wanted to make use of the theme of the series in this one.”
Overwatch 2 x Transformers: Hidden Details
Although it takes a long time to perfect a collaborative skin, there are many details that were spotted right away, some of which may not have been noticed by the average player. If you are an avid Transformers fan, you will notice the highlight intros for Ramatora and Reinhardt. Transformers: The Moviemimicking certain poses taken by both Megatron and Optimus Prime in that film’s big battle. Another key element of that highlight intro is that players notice an explosion behind Reinhardt, which only occurs when the Optimus Prime skin is enabled and does not appear if any other skin is equipped.
Overwatch 2 x Transformers could be back for more
Unlike previous collaborations that Overwatch 2 carried out, Transformers It feels like this event is just the first of many to come, and as Dion Rodgers previously told us, the team has a lot of ideas for what they could do and has been generating ideas for other events. Overwatch 2 The idea is to have heroes appear as Transformers characters. When asked about the possibility of another collaboration, they sounded optimistic.
“We’ll never give up on doing something again that we have so many ideas for and passion for,” Amy Dennett said. “As Dion said, the question isn’t, ‘Oh, who do we get to do it?’ It’s, ‘Okay, we can’t do all these things.’
Fans wish him further success Overwatch 2 x Transformers The characters need to know they’re not alone, either. Dion Rogers gives us that final element we wished was cut.
“Grimlock is actually my favorite. Transformers And I hope there will be an opportunity to incorporate the Dinobots into this collaboration in some way.”
As Optimus Prime said, “The future is built on dreams.”
Overwatch 2 x Transformers The collaboration is available from now until July 23rd.
